In a sense 32 bit loss was worse because there was no translation mechanism and it came much sooner than expected. At least we will have Rosetta for a few years ...
But 32->64 at least runs both on the same CPU with no overhead, so you can just have both and let users move once enough of their ecosystem has moved over. Rosetta will have more overhead...
Just remembered Mach O fat binaries are a thing. I think modern apps have lacked ppc support for a while, but at least there is a container format already in use for dual arch support. Best case is VSTs will be recompiled with x64 and ARMv8 (and maybe older ARM ISAs), right?
