Wondering how the Apple ARM transition is going to affect huge plug-in ecosystems, like DAWs and VSTs. This could go very poorly, with the effective loss of anything that isn't being actively developed and/or having to re-buy everything for ARM...
I don't know where you're getting with "RPCs". Of course there are a million different ways you could talk between processes, just like normal. There is no new technology involved there. Just the act of wrapping in-process plug-ins to run out-of-process is going to be a problem.

There are not many possiblities. Transcompile plugin before or in time, with runtime library or app or developer providing symbol addresses. Or run plugin on a separate process. But app and plugin makers will prefer to get your money from a "crossgrade" or a new full license.

Performance is an unknown variable. In the transition from PPC to x86_64 they didn't allow "pro" software to be used with Rosetta, while in yesterday's demo they showed Maya and some games. So plugins might be translatable with the application and run in a single process.
