Hey, remember I was mentioning 0-ohm resistors yesterday? Here's one!pic.twitter.com/0O8S0Uzf75
If it ain't broke, I'll fix it!

Hey, remember I was mentioning 0-ohm resistors yesterday? Here's one!pic.twitter.com/0O8S0Uzf75
I wonder if I could hook up a programmer to the right pads on this thing and reprogram the arm chip? It's going to have the program stored onboard (there's no eeprom/flash chips anywhere)... maybe I could dump it?
So, the keyboard, the reason we're here... It uses a flat flex connector, since it's directly on that transparent material that all cheap terrible keyboards are. 11 connectors.pic.twitter.com/ATwgnq7hEz
You can see a bit through the back that there's separate pads for each button, so I can already guess how this works. It's two flexible plastic layers, with contacts on each, which touch when you push them down.pic.twitter.com/rPjgzWPab4
Here's the fun part, though: when you look at the top, there's no gap here... they put this together and glued it on. There's really no way to remove this that doesn't destroy it. So I can't just look at the button matrix and reverse it, unless I want to buy another otter.pic.twitter.com/XqrreIMwLA
But hey, we can do educated guesses and then test 'em. We've got 4 rows, 7 columns. Hmm, what does that add up to? oh, yeah, 11... this is just a simple matrix.pic.twitter.com/XU9vmwCFhI
But I'll need some way to connect to this thing. Now, normally they just do that horrible flat-flex-to-PCB press fit thing, but here there's actually a really simple answer to the "how do I connect to this" question...pic.twitter.com/jMs8huX0Dz
I've got the connector right here. I just need to desolder it from the board.pic.twitter.com/CfYCTHsLZU
if you look closely at where the PCB disappears into the plastic, it looks like 7 of the traces go left, and 4 go right. so probably the 4 on the right are the rows, and the 7 on the left are the columnspic.twitter.com/fBmE5lqg7k
I tried beeping out the matrix with a multimeter but had no luck. I think I'm just not getting a good connection to the flat flex. So yeah, desoldering time
The buttons might have too high resistance for continuity mode on your multimeter. Have you checked in resistance mode?
An ad for a similar type of keypad mentions contact resistance of "<100 ohms"https://www.globalsources.com/si/AS/Acemi-Optronics/6008821994319/pdtl/Membrane-Keyboard/1002733392.htm …
the resistance ended up being around 80 ohms
