I know someone with sleeping problems who refuses to try melatonin or anything else because their family said it’s bad, and now I worry about them getting sick and dying because their family is in some sort of cult
Some people are irrationally scared by drugs. My family is no stranger to medicine, but I had to convince them that melatonin was a good idea. Now I'm going to get checked for ADHD and my mom's first reaction was "BUT WHAT THEY GIVE YOU FOR THAT IS AMPHETAMINES!!!"
This is the same mom that keeps a drawer full of stuff, including prescription meds, for anything from colds to acid reflux.
