Got one of those "camlink" USB converters because I was curious about em, and WHOAH I was shocked. UVC output, 20ms delay and signal looks to be properly grabbing 1080P@30. Single chip solution under a small sink and costs under $20. What in the heck is this.pic.twitter.com/J7HYM3cf3M

If you're feeling adventurous and want to take off the heatsink/thermal pad, I'd be curious what chips they're using. Also, is that USB 2 only?

bottom side is empty of components. there's a 24 series flash chip I'll dump later, will also remove the pad on the chip because I'm curious too.

I was discarding those USB 2.0 devices because I was assuming that there's no way it could provide the data rate required for proper 1080p. Looks like I was wrong. There are similar dongles though, that say in the fine print they *accept* 1080p input, but capture it as 480p.

I have an AverMedia LGP2 which is USB2 and captures 1080p no problem (MJPEG or H.264) so this isn't a new thing. I actually prefer them on MJPEG since their H.264 really craps out on high motion scenes.

USB2 can do ~300mbps, which is more than enough for 4K *if* you have good compression. 1080p with mediocre compression :-)
