I'm a longtime fan of Dave's videos, recently followed him and now wondering what this controversy is about. I don't know about "the mob" that objected to his last tweet, it's been deleted. But Dave's supporters on this thread seem like an angry mob too.
It's several things. A few were honest accidents that he has retracted, but he still - has a forum thread where he claims famous women engineers only get coverage because they're women - tells trans people to deal with it when they point out his usage of "tranny" is hurtful

"the mob" blew up because those, in combination with the poorly worded tweets, painted a really bad picture. Like, at one point he supported a fascist, anti-LGBT world leader in a tweet. He deleted the tweets but he hasn't apologized for them.
Oh man, I just poked around the forums and there's a lot of unenlightened, closed minded posts from people who lack any kind of empathy. It's absolutely cringy.
