how does this work tho, do all \ show up as ¥ for them,, since it's also the yen symbol this only makes it more complicated

I can confirm the same applies to Korean. \ always gets visually replaced with ₩, the South Korean currency (KRW).

Back in the day, common DOS codepage used in Yugoslavia mapped ~^]}|\[{`@ to čČćĆđĐšŠžŽ, so DOS prompt was C:Đ>, but by the time Windows became popular, CP852 was mostly in use, and Windows never added support for the old codepage.
