Will we ever get an OSH park for custom ASICs / silicon ICs? I’d like to hear your input regardless of familiarity with the tech.

For several classic chips we probably could reproduce the masks now. It’s the IP issues which would be the challenge, which in a sensible world would be a non-issue. The idea that a 40 year old chip made by a company which died 30 years ago yet still copyrighted is just absurd.
Other than ROMs you should be in the clear. Mask rights only last for 10 years.

True, although some layouts might be owned by international entities (following asset sales) which brings in TRIPS and I’ve read the info on that three times and I can’t figure out what the timeframe is for protection there.
