Yeah, but I'm just one person :-) Really though, if the ffmpeg devs were truly asking for data (instead of being dismissive) I'd put the effort into gathering more of it, but given the responses I've had I don't think it's going to be a good use of my time.

I completely agree. For me, it’s an intellectual exercise. For you, you’ve got to decide if it’s a hill you want to go die on. I certainly wouldn’t blame you if you chose not to fight that battle.

Also, FWIW, I’ve been conditioned by over a decade of using it to intrinsically distrust ffmpeg’s built-in codec implementations for anything other than experimental or educational purposes. So maybe most users are similarly conditioned?

Unfortunately, ffmpeg AAC is still the default AAC codec for OBS on Windows... the licensing issues with libfdk_aac (the only other viable open source alternative) are a problem.
