I had some plans to contribute to ffmpeg (on a completely different part of the codebase) in the near future, for which I even bought some hardware... With this attitude from the devs, I'm pretty sure I won't be doing that any time soon.https://twitter.com/BMahol/status/1255884140249001984 …

I find you exceptionally rude to the devs providing this service to you. You dive straight in with a really bad attitude. Embarrassing to say the least. They be good not accepting any PR from you. You should be banned from all open source software.

The devs were exceptionally rude to me in the past regarding this issue (and to other users). I am being significantly more civil here than they were and are. I have no problems contributing to friendly and welcoming open source projects that actually care about their users.

I only tracked it back to your twitter discussion. So you may consider that the twitter discussion doesn’t reflect good on you. It appear as if you trying to actually shame them. You could just walk away if you don’t like a community you know.

I can't just walk away when *users* are affected. It's not about me, it's about this literally being the default codec for basically every Twitch streamer. Informing the public about this (so they can use an alternative like CoreAudio) is a public service.

I understand your frustration. I do. But you know that the only way to fix this is to go back to the devs and say you sorry for having a bit of an attitude, but you really think you could improve on the codebase. Look, I’ve even written it already so you can look for yourself.

Look, I know you think I'm the asshole here, but... *other* ffmpeg devs have already apologized to me privately about this. It's not just me here. There's a pattern with some ffmpeg devs. Also, you did kind of jump in there saying I should be banned from open source.

Yes, I think the tweet about embarrassing code was no good. And OSS is as much about trust as it is about tech when it comes to contributions. Not all devs do OSS for the users. Many (like me) do it because it provides a challenge I don’t get elsewhere.

That's the difference between a pet project and a widely used library. You can do whatever you want for pet projects (I have many), but if you're maintaining something in wide usage, you *need* to care about your users.

Yes, I understand that this is where we fundamentally disagree. I consider this entirely at the will of the coder. A no is a no, regardless of why. Then you are free to feel as you want about it, but if you bring it to internet then it’s on you.
