So yeah, if you use OBS on Windows, make sure you install the CoreAudio codec (you can extract the msi from the iTunes installer), and on Linux make sure you use a build with libfdk_aac. Also, don't use @streamlabs OBS. It seems CoreAudio support is broken there. It finds the codec but then bails with some error and never uses it.

What are the benefits? Lower load, better sound quality? Fixs any known issue? Or did Microsoft broke something with update?
Better audio quality. This has nothing to do with Microsoft, it's just that the default encoder that OBS comes with is bad.
