Silly math realization: the reason why doubling signal level is almost +6 dB is the same as the reason why 1 kibibyte is almost 1000 bytes. +60 dB = +6 B = 10^6 times the power = 10^3 times the level = 1000 ~= 1024 = 2^10 = 10 doublings, ~60 dB/10 = 6 dB each.
Doubling power is 3 dB. Doubling signal level quadruples power and is 6 dB.
