Actually distilled water is perfectly fine to drink, exclusively even. There's no *reason* to do it, but it won't hurt you. The thing about the body needing the minerals in water is an urban myth. You get those from food.

Distilled water is hypotonic to red blood cells... definitely not safe to drink regularly and especially not without food or something else

Only if you drink a huge quantity. Drinking a huge quantity of normal water will also kill someone. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication … Drinking normal quantities of distilled water and eating normally will not harm anyone.

Distilled water is hypotonic to everything. So is regular water. That's why you don't inject people with water, distilled or not, you use saline. And why isotonic sports drinks are a thing, and not just water. It's a myth that the tiny amount of minerals in regular water matters
