In today's episode of broken software... Apple Compressor installed a bunch of garbage into /var/empty on this Mac. Seriously.
/var/empty is owned by root. That's the point, it's supposed to be empty and stay empty, nobody has write access. It was some kind of installer crap running as root that dumped stuff there.

Normally /var/empty is used for things like chrooting there when you don't want to be able to access any files. I was intending to use it to effectively issue an arbitrary mkdir() via rsync. Ended up creating another, actually empty directory...

just curious about what it is used for? And wildly guessing that it maybe was running under guest privileges and dumped in to /var/empty
