Guys I *literally* said that COVID-19 is the disease and SARS-CoV-2 is the virus. You can stop re-explaining my own tweet to me now.

The virus has been SARS-CoV-2 for a while; it's considered a variant of the SARS virus. COVID-19 is the name for the outbreak itself.
-
COVID-19 is the name of the disease. The outbreak doesn't have a name per se beyond "2019-20 coronavirus outbreak" or such as far as I can tell.

The disease is COVID-19, the virus is SARS-CoV-2.
-
Yes, that's exactly what I said. Which makes no sense, because the virus is named after a *different* related disease than the one it actually causes.

So to summarize: - There are 2 strains of SARSr-CoV - One is SARS-CoV (implied -1), which causes SARS - One is SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19
-
Yup. Terrible naming scheme.

It's similar to sars I think but instead of affecting the lung tissue it just fills it with mucus buildup causing breathing problems.
