      So, what's the right SMTP/IMAP client to use on iOS? I use K-9 Mail on Android, but asking for a friend who uses iOS...

      TIL: Outlook on Android is extremely naughty. Although it requires you to configure an outgoing SMTP server/port, *all* emails you send using it are initially routed through http://mail.outlook.com  services, not your configured SMTP server. Crikey! Arrrrrrrrrgh!

      Well, I just tried the Android version on a test account and... It doesn't seem to actually send emails. To anywhere. It claims it sends them but then they don't arrive. And I can't find the SMTP settings anywhere. This is with the autodetected IMAP config.

      Then I tried manually adding the account in advanced mode, and it throws a login error, even though I know the IMAP server/user/pw are correct...

      Anyway, I just confirmed that both SMTP and IMAP proxy through MS servers.

          Android, but I assume iOS is the same. If anything, Android makes it easier to write apps that *don't* do this, I think Apple pretty much forbids real usable IMAP clients.

          To be fair, they *have* to do this to deliver a usable user experience on iOS (new mail notifications). Blame Apple for that one.
