Yeah, it's been shown for a while now that you can stick an Intel Thunderbolt controller into an AMD system and it works fine. The only reason people aren't doing it is contractual or whatever.

Intel made TB3 royalty-free last year IIRC. I didn't expect to see it used until USB4 but there are laptops with AMD+TB3 then that's pretty sweet.

i think its the bigest complaint about surface book / pro / whatevers is they have a 3.1 usb c, but no thunderbolt.
