So apparently it's 2019 and @Lenovodc *still* insists on having a broken in-warranty enterprise HDD returned (even though that would be a massive data protection violation) or else they charge for the replacement.
I am not amused.

Yeah, you always have to review the terms with the storage vendor. They charge for "keep your drive". After I left infrastructure for Security a new storage appliance was purchased without getting that in the contract first. Only option is to pay full retail for replacement now.

I also had to throw away a big SSD (Crucial) that broke during warranty, because I didn’t use FDE there. I assume they need them for proof of defect.
