Since we're talking about Google being less than nice towards its workers, here's a fun little story from my days there. There were two things that I really didn't like about Google at the time: The Google+ saga (realnames et al), and the IP ownership policy.
I know it's counterintuitive and we all think of lawyers as the last people you'd want to interact with... but I have to say lawyers inside of Google tended to strike me as surprisingly chill for the job title.

Good to hear. Never had to deal with them. The general hunch about company lawyers is that they're not on your side. Like HR protects corp from people issues, lawyers protect them from legal issues. Helping you is incidental.

I've only seen them make incidental posts on groups, and they generally seem cool. My assumption is just if there is any balance to strike between protecting the company from any remotely possible headache and helping you, there is an obvious choice.
