Check out Hector's thread for details. It's a committee of volunteers. They're not lawyers (afaik). Which is why I said that I'm actually grateful that there is this body in the first place, many other companies just give you a blanket "no" or make it convoluted, with lawyers.
The lawyer in my thread with cdibona (who is not a lawyer) was *actually* the nice guy (then cdibona kicked me out). I hear from people still in there that cdibona no longer running that team, and that the lawyers are actually nice and reasonably allowing the process to improve.
I know it's counterintuitive and we all think of lawyers as the last people you'd want to interact with... but I have to say lawyers inside of Google tended to strike me as surprisingly chill for the job title.
Good to hear. Never had to deal with them. The general hunch about company lawyers is that they're not on your side. Like HR protects corp from people issues, lawyers protect them from legal issues. Helping you is incidental.
