Since we're talking about Google being less than nice towards its workers, here's a fun little story from my days there. There were two things that I really didn't like about Google at the time: The Google+ saga (realnames et al), and the IP ownership policy.

Yep - I did exactly this with my latest contract. They took it out. Everything is negotiable. Read your contracts before you sign them!

One of the benefits of working in California is that you don't have to negotiate for the removal of a clause that is already void in the state.

This whole policy is based on California law. California law lets your employer claim anything related to their line of work, and Google's line of work is basically everything IT/SWE.
