But in most cases you don't know what SBC bitrates a particular device (speakers/headphones/etc) implements... in that light I can see aptX having an advantage in that you know what you're getting.

Personally? The only streaming I do is SMB. After the media decoding, it's all wires. Ironically, it's simpler this way. And, yeah, I know what I'm getting.
