coil noise is the hard drive noise of the SSD era; when i was a child you could hear a computer's accesses to persistent storage, nowadays the predominant noise seems to come from CPU power state transitions (peak to average power ratio is big for a mostly idle modern CPU)

i had a 12V car usb charger for my iphone and when i also connected its headphone port to the car's aux input it would make a horrid noise proportional to the instantaneous power draw; everything from LTE modem to touching the screen to iOS animations made different horrid sounds

I get the same except it tracks the engine RPM, which I can only assume is some weird harmonic noise from the alternator.

I have a couple of bags of cheap audio isolation transformers, they come in handy a lot. Also considering modding my soundcard to use external power (e.g. 8v then LDO it) as USB 5v is often shockingly noisy
