did you bring some kind of IR analyzer with you?
No, you can infer it from how the remote works and how it behaves when you press buttons while blocking IR and then unblock it. Stateless protocols will jump to the new target state, stateful ones will just ignore the button presses while blocked.

Maybe better terminology would've been "absolute" vs "relative".

If you end up leveraging any of the forums or drivers from the AV industry, we use "discrete IR" for idempotent IR commands. This might help your research. We do a lot of lights for home installs.
