It's a bunch of switch cases followed by common code. Evil. Goto would be more readable than this...

Gotos are often more readable than alternatives (nested breaks/switches, weird if(0)s, variable flags, etc.) but everybody knows they're considered harmful so one must avoid them at all cost.

Most people in the "goto considered harmful" camp won't use switches at all though, or at least not weird-ass switches like this that they can't pretend are syntactic sugar for if/else.
