If you rely on public appearances and effectively donations to maintain a basic livelihood, you should take care not to alienate, well, the public. There's a difference between weird and, well, years of tolerated misbehavior culminating in devil's advocating for a child molester
He didn't get cancelled for eating stuff off his foot. Being weird isn't amazing, but it doesn't end up in everyone turning against you (or shouldn't; some horrible people try to trigger that kind of response for mere weirdness, and we should be wary of them).

An alleged molester with mountains of evidence against them not getting a trial because they killed themselves/were murdered is absolutely *not* a free pass to defend them or their friends and not be judged for it in the court of public opinion.
