The sad part is that it took RMS making excuses for sex trafficking for him to get kicked out. He's been a hindrance to the free software movement for many years now, in technical/licensing/endorsement/general image matters.
Because the Purism folks unfortunately value the image of openness, even if imagined, above pragmatic design choices and actually building the best product for the openness-conscious user.

Do they really, though? Their "Librem Key" is just a rebranded Nitrokey Pro 2 (but nowhere is that mentioned in their landing page). The Librem 5 has underwhelming specs (rPi3 class CPU - 6 year old low-end design; 720p screen) and they don't even list them on the landing page.
