You know the story, right? +term used to be the "yes I really want this term" marker. Then Google+ happened and they had to make '+' into a word token to make it searchable (and yes, reindex everything). Then they started saying "quotes" did the same thing but it totally didn't.
I think some engineer there finally got fed up with the situation and created verbatim mode.
What really bothers me that they never publish an updates listing of these things

Fascinating! I've always thought that naming G+ was the stupidest mistake that the world's leading search provider could ever make.
I'm pretty sure there was a hilariously long period of time after G+ was announced, maybe even launched, when googling it still gave you results for "Google".
