My main laptop/workstation is getting long in the tooth (7+ years), but for my next machine I want AMD to come up with 6+ core APUs and someone to stick one in a laptop with Thunderbolt... (or at least give me FireWire and/or ExpressCard, but I guess those are dead)

My one use case was hotplugging my Apple TB2 gigabit ethernet adaptors. I know those work(ed) on Linux with Intel TB2, but TB3 no dice. It has been a couple kernel versions ago that I last tried to make it work, so I guess I should test it again.

I don't particularly care about hotplugging, so if things do work from a cold boot that's enough... Than again I guess this all also depends on the firmware and hardware involved, so it might be different for different machines.
