(old bug: broken alpha compositing due to premultiplied alpha being evil; current bug: characters are rendered as whole units with border, in horizontal order, instead of doing borders first which would look better for overlaps)

I meant *non* premultiplied alpha is evil. Making everything premultiplied is what fixed all the stupid blending bugs.

why do you consider premultiplied alpha to be evil? it has been a very long time since I’ve looked at that stuff but I remember it was the only way to do blending correctly with hardware that just lerps the components.
