Mine is US locked too and amazon didn't say a word. It sucks, really :(
I think the US one has a specific model number, but you have to know the significance... I did my research before buying it to avoid getting stuck in the wrong region.

Officially, -US on the end of the model. Not impressed with http://Amazon.com not telling us that. Their support finally explained its region locked. Better test the JP mode and see if it does DFS correctly!

The hardware should be the same everywhere, so it should work fine. AFAIK they just region lock the US ones due to FCC requirements.
