Someone tried PCIe on the Raspberry Pi 4 already. Yes, the wiring job is horrible, and yes, of course it works, as I've said many times. Go hack on PCIe already, it's easier than you think. I feel like all those headaches had more to do with the author trying to keep the original chip on first (bad idea, even tristated) and using the wrong caps, than with PCIe being picky about short sections of messy wiring.
