How are others dealing with the apparent transition away from PDF documentation to web-based manuals and datasheets? What do others think of this trend, that appears to be starting and will likely get going properly soon.

I can see both sides, but I do not want to loose the firm "I have the documentation" that PDFs give you. - You can "have" PDFs, and archive them with a project. - You can view PDFs easily.

- If web-based becomes a thing, will we be able to download them? - Will we need to maintain system just to view them (i.e: web server / docker image). - What if their server goes away? - What if your internet connection goes away? (or you go away from it)

NB: I'm not discussing presentation - Atlas Scientific datasheets appear to be a controversial topic, and are out of scope here. https://www.atlas-scientific.com/_files/_datasheets/_probe/EZO_RGB_Datasheet.pdf …

@whitequark@marcan42@GregDavill@TinyFPGA and others have an opinion on this...2 replies 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread
Standalone web-based is *potentially* better than PDF, but I don't trust manufacturers to do that properly. Downloadability is a must. Otherwise just give me a PDF please.
