Forgot to mention this. while testing out the XT-IDE stuff yesterday I noticed something: floppies weren't able to be read or written to properly anymore, and would only format as 360K. changing the BIOS address didn't solve it, and setting the floppy size in the BIOS errored outpic.twitter.com/NkobZtHErh

the error was the IDE DOM no longer being seen. I'm not sure if this is because there's no battery, or if there's an address conflict someplace. more testing is needed once I hook up a battery (probably will solder some leads to a 3xAAA cylinder from a cheapo LED flashlight).

Might be useful to drop a logic analyser on the LPC bus pins to the Super-I/O, assuming you have suitable test equipment (it's 33.3MHz so most open-source logic analysers won't cut it). The datasheet will have info on the LPC frames for configuring IRQ and the like.

sadly I don't own any equipment for that. :/ I'll look into a datasheet at the very least.

Fair. If in future you want to explore that space, @marcan42 might have some thoughts on affordable equipment and some tips for navigating LPC stuff.

Glasgow revC is definitely capable of sniffing LPC :-) (not sure if there is code for it upstream yet, but it's trivial to write an LPC sniffer with it)
