Just confirmed that the MG2040 and the ESD7008 are the same device sold under two different datasheets. The "NC" pins of the ESD7007 are really the common GND of the MG2040 and measure as such. The pentagonal pads of the MG2040 are a lie, they're both square. Lol @onsemi.pic.twitter.com/U4UsDunXZJ

I assume this is from a merger/acquisition? The product was similar enough that they just merged it, but still decided to sell it under both names because people were buying both?
