I don't think whatever method you're using to convert the image to PCM samples is correct/useful. Here are my results for MP3, Vorbis, Opus, at default settings, with the image interpreted as 8-bit mono samples.pic.twitter.com/pIoq2yuSBk

FWIW this is what I used: convert img_MIKU_us.png -depth 8 rgb:- | sox -t raw -r 44100 -c1 -b 8 -e unsigned-integer - -t wav - | opusenc - - | sox -t opus - -t raw -r 44100 -c1 -b 8 -e unsigned-integer - | convert -size 462x710 -depth 8 rgb:- miku_opus.png
See my command line later; I convert the image to 8-bit raw RGB and then interpret it as 8-bit unsigned mono samples. I think you must have a signed/unsigned mismatch somewhere, or you're mixing 8-bit and 16-bit. That might explain the extreme noise in place of some flat colors.
