you can probably see their ambition with this collab lolpic.twitter.com/6utfOvNzD7
by the way... about that “Secret” version of these earphones: aside from a special unique design of Kizuna Ai on the inner door of the box, you also get purple plugs/wings in addition to pink/brown. (not mine, i found this pic via a google image search lol)pic.twitter.com/eGBvVy7TBa
another interesting point: the earphones' system interface talks to you in kizuna ai's voice when you switch on/pair/interact with them!!! (and the voice clips actually sound good and not all cheapo talkbox-like) here's a couple of the voice clips i managed to record lolpic.twitter.com/8IGxTwvCO7
i’m pairing these earphones with my iphone 6s (which uses lossy AAC at i think 320kbps). i don’t yet have a means to test them with the (supposedly better) AptX codec. with that said, how do they sound? they sound fine to me. how’s the lag? terrible, as expected from bluetooth.
so i’m not gonna go all crazy audiophile dorkass with this review, but i will say that compared to my MDR-EX140LP canal earbuds (which i consider a very decent cheapo consumer-level pair), the TE-D01d-kzn doesn’t have that annoying sizzle at ~3-4khz
if anything, they kinda remind me of DT-990s. i can tell with their 𝓙𝓪𝓹𝓪𝓷
𝓣𝓾𝓷𝓮𝓭 marketing they’re trying to go for that studio monitor curve while ever-so-slightly bumping the bass and vocal midrange area. it’s definitely pleasant to listen to
the fact though is considering they're bluetooth earbuds that support from SBC codec to AAC (for iOS) and AptX (for higher-end android phones) -- all lossy codecs btw… you're definitely not gonna get OOH AUDIOPHILE QUALITY with these. but most likely you won't notice anyway lol
FWIW, I ABX tested myself on SBC at max bitpool settings (which any sane Bluetooth source should use) and it was transparent. My conclusion was that "better" Bluetooth codecs are marketing wank. SBC is a lousy codec, but at the bitrate it's used at (~340k) it doesn't matter.
If there are any benefits to fancier codecs it would have to be in things like connection robustness or battery life due to having to push fewer bits through the air, not quality, but I don't see anyone advertising those so... Maybe not even that.
Note that I *do* hear audible differences in Bluetooth speakers vs using them wired, but since I tested the codec itself and it was fine, it must be more of a DSP/DAC difference thing when using Bluetooth mode.
