Here's a fun one. The old GPIO expander that we had in revC0 for pull-up control gets slightly warm when not doing anything. Ground all the I/Os and it immediately cools down. Looks like those input buffers have high leakage when the input is floating!pic.twitter.com/fGxdlvlqCX

Floating inputs may amplify noise and keep the gate switching instead of still, which usually draws more power.

I don't think external noise causing switching accounts for this (~20mA consumption). It's more likely input buffers that are in an intermediate state and conducting across the supply rail.
