Here's a fun one. The old GPIO expander that we had in revC0 for pull-up control gets slightly warm when not doing anything. Ground all the I/Os and it immediately cools down. Looks like those input buffers have high leakage when the input is floating!pic.twitter.com/fGxdlvlqCX

It is typical for CMOS inputs to oscillate and increase power consumption when not driven. Always pull up/down or set as outputs unused pins!

I'm not sure if it was oscillating or just just leaking through the input buffer. It's one of those things I learned like 15 years ago, but never had the chance to observe in such an obvious fashion :-)
