Someone should put an FPGA with an FM synth and maybe basic PCM output on a GB cartridge. It’d make the ultimate chiptune machine.

For context, the original GB (and I think GB Pocket/Light and GBC?) have an audio-in pin that can pipe an audio signal from the cartridge directly to the speakers, much like the FC had that the VRC6 etc had. The GBA does not have this pin however.

I suppose so! I never used that feature, I always had separate players when that was still a common thing.

Heck, my previous Core 2 Duo laptop still had its Blu-Ray drive wired up to the codec like that. I was surprised. I figured everyone used digital audio mode by then.
