      USB 3.0 fue USB 3.1 gen1, y ahora para colmo de males TAMBIÉN es USB 3.2 gen1, haciendo un absoluto caos para diferenciar productos, y una muy buena labor de branding para que el consumidor piense que está comprando algo recién salido del horno con tecnología de hace casi 10 años

      Es que PRECÍSAMENTE por eso USB-IF especifica que el branding debe ser "High Speed", "SuperSpeed", "SuperSpeed 10Gbps", "SuperSpeed 20Gbps" y nada de versiones. El problema es la gente que se empeña en usar las versiones como si implicaran la velocidad.

      me parece igualmente confuso y farragoso. Si van a dar la velocidad explícitamente, opino que el calificativo de velocidad sobra. Dile a un usuario de a pie que ordene, sin saber nada, full speed (usb 1.1), hi-speed (2.0) y super speed (3.0+)

      Sí, los nombres son completamente absurdos, en eso estoy de acuerdo. Por lo menos a partir de SuperSpeed se habla de Gbps, lo cual es una mejora.

      quiero decir... a mí me parece más sencillo para el usuario, por ejemplo: 3.0=5gbps 3.1=10gbps 3.2=20gbps, y si no se dice lo contrario, usb tipo C

      El problema es que las versiones no se implementan al completo, definen muchas cosas por separado. Es por eso por lo que ya no existen dispositivos USB 1.1, pero la mayoría de los teclados a la venta hoy son USB 2.0 low speed (1.5 mbps). USB no es el único caso con este problema.

      tienes toda la razón, pero precisamente por eso supongo que no te parece correcto meter esas implementaciones incompletas, del draft de la especificación o de lo que sea, se metan en el saco de las nuevas en una nomenclatura que en el marketing van a usar torticeramente

      No son implementaciones incompletas, es que sencillamente no tiene ningun sentido requerir que todas las implementaciones de un estándar soporten el 100% de la funcionalidad que define. En el caso de USB 2.0, por ejemplo, solo los hubs y hosts necesitan soportar 480mbps.pic.twitter.com/yiH5ZUVGrK

          Esto es como quejarse de que una TV que implementa HDMI 1.4 no es 4K, por el mero hecho de que HDMI 1.4 soporta hasta 4K 24Hz. O como quejarse de que un movil con 802.11ac no tiene 4 antenas y por lo tanto no soporta velocidades de hasta 3.4Gbps por wifi.

          El estándar te da un máximo, un total de funcionalidades que son posibles bajo el, pero no requiere que todos los dispositivos las implementen. No son un todo o nada.
