Thunderclap TL;DR: someone finally tried on PCs (over Thunderbolt) what we did on the PS4 (over PCIe) years ago. As I said at the time, IOMMUs are useless if the drivers are not written assuming the device is evil. *Nobody* writes PCIe drivers assuming the device is evil.

Port’s off to new devices if the laptop is locked. Laptop locks the moment you step away unless you tell it (perhaps verbally) not to. Coarse grained is not YOLO. It’s setting up shop at defensible borders.

Agreed. But then leave it to technology companies to introduce backdoors into hard coarse-grained borders. Like Apple's upteempth lockscreen bypass through Siri or whatever random thing they let you do without unlocking.
