You can just have one I bought like 7, they were something like 20 to 50USD on eBay. Interestingly they were integrated into a pseudo-scientific Raman spectroscopy skin test device, contained lots of nice components however!
I think there’s a reasonable amount of misinformation in that thread. I have a document somewhere describing the protocol, it seemed pretty straightforward. A company called physics surplus sells the same module (at significant markup), the software they supply works with mine.
