Let it ring out once more: -Backing up your games is not piracy. -Archiving backups is not piracy. -Enabling installs from backups is not piracy. When the content distribution system is nuked, legitimate purchasers are only able to access their purchases via hacking.https://twitter.com/imranzomg/status/1088229290708164609 …

as soon as something is no longer being actively produced/sold, it should basically be a freezone

Of course the obvious answer to this that would solve all problems is to shorten copyright to something reasonable (5-10 years should do it), then everything exceeding that age is fair game to hack.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

At some point, it doesnt matter anymore. The shitty kids who do piracy are, as an unintended side result, creating a colossal archive of an impermanent culture. If not a necessary evil, it is at least a fascinating conundrum, but I can tell you 100% I'd rather... (1/2)
-
(2/2)...live in a world where corporate profits are hurt by 5% and our cultural record is well preserved than live in a world where that 5% isn't lost and our culture is forced to be plastic and impermanent. Companies should not profit from the death of cultural history.

Making distribution convenient and cost-effective is probably the best thing you can do to combat piracy, Steam is a good example, also looking at data for Australia with regards to things like Game of Thrones.
-
Australia had the record for the largest number of downloads of Game of Thrones, where it's locked to shitty pay TV that is expensive as hell. Compare our numbers on other 'premium' shows that can be legally purchased cheaply through iTunes etc? barely anything compared to the US
