PSA: with the most recent version of LVM2, if you use it in your initramfs and you don't use udev there, you need this in lvm.conf, otherwise it'll hang for half an hour: devices { multipath_component_detection = 0 md_component_detection = 0 }

It seriously tries to talk to udev with a 10 second timeout, for each block device in the system, multiple times. Who thought this was a good idea?
