Well, regardless of exploitability, this attitude just destroyed any confidence I had in VLC's updater being secure. Seriously, WTF. https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/21737 …

To be correct about things, MPV (without a front end) operates just fine on Windows. Maybe there are front ends, I dunno. Default is perfectly usable.

Of course, I just tend not to recommend plain mpv to Windows users because I fully expect the first question to be "where's the File menu?!".

I’d run Linux on my media PC, but I just can’t get it working with my receiver. Since surround sound is a must-have feature, I just took the easy way out and used the Windows image the machine came with.

The good news is that I’ll be shopping for a newer media PC solution soon, so I’ll be able to put much more time into selecting components that don’t have strange Linux driver issues (I’m using AMD right now with integrated graphics). Any recommendations?

I’d like to play 4K video with 7.2 audio without stutter or sync issues, something my current machine can’t handle at all.
