TIL one of the reasons warm water is better for washing things is because surface tension gets lower with temperature and so it becomes better at wetting stuff even without any detergent vice versa, that's why detergents let you wash dishes with even cold water

Oil and other fats also tend to flow better at higher temperatures too, I always assumed that was a factor.
