Fun fact: AMD has *still* not released Zen microcode updates for Spectre on desktop chips (at least not in linux-firmware). Only for EPYC. amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam17h.bin only contains ucode for stepping 2 (EPYC).

Looks like for initial microcode updates, less than a month after public disclosure. But there were additional releases in March, April, and September (though at least the Sept releases were mostly for Spectre v1.1 and 1.2 exploits)

No updates have been released for Linux for anything other than EPYC. The most recent microcode update contains *no* updates for stepping 1. At all. No patches are applied at kernel startup.

The question was about Intel, not AMD.

I'm talking about AMD. Yes, Intel released a bunch of updates covering steadily more CPUs. All my Intel systems are patched by intel-microcode.

Yes, AMD is definitely asleep at the wheel there. I guess EPYC was rightfully the priority for getting patches out first as servers are a bigger and juicier target than normal users' computers, but they've had almost a full year (plus however much time previous to public notice).

I suspect they gave microcode updates to BIOS vendors and just didn't bother with Linux users. Looking through a BIOS update now to see if I can find something for Ryzen/TR.

Yup, it's in there. I guess they give no fucks about desktop Linux users who may not have gotten a BIOS update.
