Fun fact: AMD has *still* not released Zen microcode updates for Spectre on desktop chips (at least not in linux-firmware). Only for EPYC. amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam17h.bin only contains ucode for stepping 2 (EPYC).

Looks like for initial microcode updates, less than a month after public disclosure. But there were additional releases in March, April, and September (though at least the Sept releases were mostly for Spectre v1.1 and 1.2 exploits)
No updates have been released for Linux for anything other than EPYC. The most recent microcode update contains *no* updates for stepping 1. At all. No patches are applied at kernel startup.

I'm talking about AMD. Yes, Intel released a bunch of updates covering steadily more CPUs. All my Intel systems are patched by intel-microcode.
