      found a cable tv adapter that has... an IBM PowerPC SoC at the heart of it unfortunately without jtag, probably because of all the shoddy cable tv crypto. let me see if i can at least get uart

      i tried to plug in what i had RECORDED as a matching power supply (5Vdc) and the barrel jack didn't fit i tried to plug in the power supply with a matching barrel jack (12Vdc) and magic smoke came out i suppose the universe hated this piece of shit too. god the smell is awful

      i desoldered the dead Vreg and gave it 3V3 instead (which is what i should have done in the first place, really) but it seems pretty definitely dead F

      oh god it's like ESP8266s and their propensity to commit ritual suicide if you aren't careful with their 3v3 line (if it dips below 2.7v during boot, it shunts vcc to ground through the whole fucking thing???)

      Wait is THAT what it was doing? I've seen mine appear to do that but I figured "surely that's not *really* what's happening, right?" I guess my supply was current limited enough to not let it explode, because this happened ALL THE TIME while testing.
